Faculty Position - Part-Time Math Teacher (beginning August 2019)

Billings Middle School, an independent school in the Northgate area of Seattle, is seeking a part time Math Instructor to join our community and teach in an innovative math program while working with a team of teachers.

The ideal candidate will be an experienced, versatile and accomplished middle school teacher who can teach math in a hands-on, minds-on and applied manner, and participate in activities that support our program. They will be experienced in numerous modalities of instruction in which learning is academically rigorous as well as engaging, dynamic, differentiated and communication based. Candidates should have solid experience in guiding a diverse group of learners in both appreciation for and success in math.

Base Qualifications

  • BA or equivalent in Math or related field

  • Experience teaching math, preferably at the Middle School level.

  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.

  • Ability to differentiate instruction in a classroom with a range of learning skills and styles.

  • Strong organizational skills.

  • Ability and desire to collaborate around curriculum and student development.

Additional skills highly valued at the school:

  • Teacher certification

  • Outdoor leadership or other experience in the outdoors

  • Technology literacy & experience integrating technology into teaching

  • Experience working across disciplines.

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Teach two sections of math in  7th and 8th grade.

  • Create and prepare all the elements of course curriculum mapping and expected learning outcomes.

  • Prepare classes as appropriate and return student assessments promptly.

  • Provide a clearly defined student evaluation system.

  • Maintain high standards for student behavior in and out of the classroom.

  • Integrate technology in teaching and assessment.

  • Attend required faculty and committee meetings as well as open houses, curriculum night, all school picnics and other community-wide events.

  • Attend all teacher in-service events.

  • Actively participate in the life of the school

  • Vigorously engage in professional development opportunities.

  • Perform other duties as assigned
