Billings Middle School  Faculty: Math Position

Billings Middle School, an independent school in the Green Lake area of Seattle, is seeking a full time Math Instructor to join our community and lead an innovative math program while working with a team of teachers.   The teacher will also serve as an advisor to 8-10 students.

The ideal candidate will be an experienced, versatile and accomplished middle school teacher who can teach a variety of courses, serve as an advisor to a small group of students, moderate co-curricular activities and participate in activities that support our program. He or she will be experienced in numerous modalities of instruction in which learning is academically rigorous as well as engaging, dynamic, differentiated and communication based. Candidates should have solid experience in guiding a diverse group of learners in both appreciation for and success in math.

Base Qualifications

¨       BA or equivalent in Math

¨       At least three years teaching math, preferably at the Middle School level.

¨       Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.

¨       Ability to differentiate instruction in a classroom with a range of learning skills and styles.

¨       Strong organizational skills.

¨       Ability and desire to collaborate around curriculum and student development.

Additional skills highly valued at the school:

Washington State Teacher certification

Outdoor leadership or other experience in the outdoors

Spanish language

Experience working outside the United States and/or an appreciation for global learning contexts

Technology literacy & experience integrating technology into teaching

Experience working across disciplines.

·         Teach four sections of math in 6th, 7th and 8th grade.

·         Create and prepare all the elements of course curriculum mapping and expected learning outcomes.

·         Prepare classes as appropriate and return student assessments promptly.

·         Provide a clearly defined student evaluation system.

·         Maintain high standards for student behavior in and out of the classroom.

·         Integrate technology in teaching and assessment.

·         Serve as an advisor to 8-10 students and participate in a grade level advisory team.

Billings Middle School  Faculty Position: Spanish 7-8

(beginning August 2017)

Billings Middle School, an independent school in the Green Lake area of Seattle, seeks a full-time faculty member to teach Spanish 7-8.  Students at Billings take Spanish in 6th, 7th and 8th grade. The 7/8 Spanish teacher will work with the 6th grade teacher and teach two sections of 7th and two sections of 8th grade Spanish.  The ideal candidate will bring experience with and a passion for both teaching and curriculum design.

This position is .75FTE but will, preferably, be combined with a PE comprise a full-time (1.0FTE) position.  Students take PE classes twice a week.  The PE teacher will work with the Athletic Director to design and teach one section of PE.  PE teachers may coach a sport in place of PE class.  Experience (coaching or participation) in volleyball, cross country/track, soccer, swimming, or tennis is a plus.
