Billings Middle School Faculty Position - Visual Arts

(beginning August 17, 2018)

Billings Middle School, an independent school in the Green Lake area of Seattle, seeks two teachers to join our faculty. Applicants should have experience teaching Social Studies.

Visual Arts (.80 FTE): Students at Billings receive instruction in basic art techniques in 6th grade and take art electives in 7th and 8th grade. The Visual Arts teacher will teach two sections of 6th grade art twice weekly and two visual arts electives twice weekly.

The teacher will also serve as an advisor for the 8th grade and sit on the 8th grade team. Most teachers participate in 2-3 overnight trips each year.

Core Responsibilities

  • Teach assigned courses

  • Serve as an 8th Grade Advisor

  • Serve on one faculty committee

  • Attend all faculty meetings and school events

Qualifications

  • Fluency in subject area

  • Experience working with middle school students

  • Demonstrated ability to differentiate teaching for a broad range of students

  • Understanding and fluency with formative assessment

  • Ability to implement and articulate cross-curricular goals for content and skill-building

  • Technology literacy & experience integrating technology into teaching

  • Ability and desire to collaborate with a diverse set of colleagues.

  • Demonstrable interest in issues of community diversity, sustainability and social justice.

  • Interest in and appreciation of the school’s mission

  • Ability to travel on 2-3 overnight school trips

  • Washington State Teacher Certification or advanced Education degree is desired

Billings Middle School Faculty Position - Humanities 7/8

(beginning August 17, 2018)

Billings Middle School, an independent school in the Green Lake area of Seattle, seeks two teachers to join our faculty. Applicants should have experience teaching Social Studies.

Students at Billings take a two period Humanities block, covering Language Arts and Social Studies. The 7/8 Humanities teacher will be in charge of the Social Studies side of Humanities, working collaboratively with the 7/8 Language Arts teacher. The teacher will have two sections of 7th and two sections of 8th grade Humanities. The ideal candidate will bring experience with and a passion for both teaching and curriculum design.

The teacher will also serve as an advisor for the 8th grade and sit on the 8th grade team. Most teachers participate in 2-3 overnight trips each year.
